BEGINNINGS
Since 1998, Dr. Pamela Harrison (aka Pam of 'Keith and Pam') has taught the Bible to adults in a variety of settings--neighborhood Bible studies, workplace Bible studies, church retreats, Sunday School classes, Christian school teacher leadership institutes, and, now, cruise ships. For years, the studies were 'traditional' Bible studies, with a narrow focus on a single book, character, or theme.
Then, inspired by participation in The Bible in 90 Days, the focus changed. Reading the entire Bible over just 90 days created connections among people, places, prophecies, and events that opened her eyes to the wonder of God's word in a new way. As she read 12 pages every day, she challenged herself to blog for the others in the reading program, summarizing the content of the day's reading, identifying key scriptures, and meditating on and writing about at least one "Most Memorable Passage." This blog forms the foundation of The Bible in 9 Days presentation on cruise ships.

THE BIBLE AT SEA
Cruise guests come to Bible study for an hour every sea day, ready to listen and respond to Pam's high-energy, dynamic presentation style while making new connections and relearning timeless truths in God's word. In order to complete the study in one cruise, an itinerary with ten sea days is perfect, but it's been done in as few as five. To meet these criteria, High Seas Ministries focuses its cruise selection each year on cruises with a significant number of sea days, often trans-oceanic voyages. These itineraries also allow time for guests to experience the Christian fellowship that comes from sharing a study of God's Word together.
Bible study with the crew typically requires a less structured approach, as work schedules as well as the ship's itinerary require that Pam and Keith be flexible, often meeting late at night or early in the morning to accommodate. Often the crew ministry is more focused on providing needed resources to crew members so they can create their own Bible study and Christian fellowship on the ship. These resources can provide the impetus for a crew member to take the lead in providing Bible study. This is often the need, as expressed by crew members such as Guest Relations Officer Luis, who said: "I am a believer. We used to have a small group of us who met for Bible study, but it was hard to keep it going. We really didn't have a leader."
